& Framing Terminology: Artist's Proof (AP's): Prints traditionally intended for the artist's personal use. It is common practice to reserve approximately 10% of an edition for AP's. Canvas Edition: Art reproduction on canvas created by photomechanical lithography or giclée. These canvases accurately replicate the character and texture of the original painting. Giclée (pronounced zhee-clay): A reproduction from digital files of an original artwork with ink sprayed directly to a substrate. The process makes millions of ink hues available and closely matches the original. Limited Edition: Set of identical prints numbered in succession and often signed by the artist. The total number of prints in an edition is fixed and the artist inspects each print before signing to ensure it is true to his/her original version. "s/n" denotes a signed and numbered limited edition. Open Edition: A print edition of unlimited number with no artist signature. "u/u" denotes an unsigned and unnumbered open edition. Signature Edition: A print edition of unlimited number which has been inspected and signed by the artist. "s/u" denotes a signed and unnumbered signature edition. Pencil Petite Original: A small original sketch executed in pencil and used in special framing presentations. Unlike remarques, these originals are created on a separate substrate than the print. Remarque: Small original sketch in the margin of an art print by the artist. Remarques may be executed in pencil or color depending on the artist. |
